This fantastic crewel embroidery was found unfinished ~ begun in the 1930’s and now completed and revitalised in 2025.
I think that the original needle person only had a limited selection of crewel wool colours so that alongside the stitching, the colour palette needed pepping up!
The design is embroidered on a linen twill in the tradition of crewel work, and made into a cushion using hand-dyed Métis linen for the piping and the back.

This cushion is made from an antique wool work crewel tree of life embroidery, including deer and rabbit, on linen twill. Backed with a dusky rose coloured soft cotton twill fabric and bordered with the very last piece of my vintage macramé trim.
